What Is Hospice?
Hospice care is a philosophy and holisitic medical approach
to caring for those who are nearing the end of life, faced
with dying and in need of a safe, nurturing sanctuary.
It seeks to restore dignity and a sense of self-control
to the dying. The focus is the patient and the family
rather than the disease. The aim is to improve the
quality of life that remains.

The modern hospice is not a place, a building or an
institution. Instead, it is
meaningful treatment of the terminally ill in their
home, whether it is their own home where they live
or some other place of care such as an adult foster care
home, nursing home or assisted living facility. The hospice
staff cares for the patient wherever he or she lives.
